We love Autumn and have lots of crafts and activities for this beautiful time of year. Take a look at our leaf puppets, conker spiders, and our bubble wrap Autumn trees.
After reading the book 'Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf' by Lois Ehlert we made a beautiful handprint tree based on the fall (Autumn) tree at the end of the book. We found paints to match the colours of the leaves in the tree and discussed what we thought would happen when we mixed our paint colours together.
Watch or read the book 'Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf'.

Handprint Autumn Tree Craft
You will need:
- Story - Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf (or watch it on youtube)
- White card
- Brown card
- Red, orange, yellow and gold paint
- Small sponges (we cut them into leaf shapes)
Handprint Tree Craft
Begin by drawing around a hand onto brown card and carefully cut it out. Stick it to the white card.
Dip the sponges into the paint and use them to print leaves around the top of the handprint. You could alternatively use real leaves dipped in paint to create leaf prints.
Keep going until the top of the tree is covered in paint. See what happens as the colours mix together. You might also want to paint a few leaves at the bottom of the page and a few falling from the tree.
The resulting art work is really effective. The red, yellow, orange and gold mix well together to create a colourful tree full of leaves, just like the fall tree in the story 'Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf'.
It would be really nice to make a set of four handprint trees, one for each season.
Check out this autumn tree craft too! This time made with cardboard tubes and a fun painting technique.
