Fingerprint Snowman Wood Slice Ornament

Make a Christmas ornament and keepsake in one with this adorable fingerprint snowman ornament made on a wood slice. This rustic Christmas craft is perfect for toddlers, preschooler and older children too! Fingerprint Snowman Wood Slice Ornament

Begin by painting the wood slices. We chose to use blue so it would look like the winter sky, but any colour could work. It could be fun to give each of the wood slices a different brightly coloured background.

Leave a small border around the edge of the wood slice to keep the rustic feel.

Once the blue paint has dried dip a finger or thumb into white paint. Make three white fingerprints, one under the other to create a snowman.

Add falling snow to the blue sky by dipping the end of a paint brush into the white paint and then onto the wood slice.

We also added a small line of white snow across the bottom.

Once the paint has fully dried add details to the snowman using sharpie markers.

We added eyes, buttons, a smile and arms in black and a nose in orange. We also gave one of our snowmen a hat.

Preschoolers will be able to do this mostly independently if you sit with them and older children could design a whole set of snowmen ornaments. It could be fun to give the snowmen different expressions, or have them doing different activities.

Daisy (aged 3) was really proud of her snowmen ornaments and I think they look adorable. She watched me make one and was then able to make hers independently, which added to her feeling of success.

Once you are happy with your fingerprint snowman ornaments thread some bakers twine or ribbon through the hole at the top of the wood slice. Your rustic snowman ornament is now complete and ready for hanging on the Christmas tree!
