Fingerprint Heart Poem Keepsake

Make a fingerprint heart keepsake craft for someone special this Valentines Day or Mothers Day. Babies, toddlers and preschoolers can use our free printable fingerprint poem along with their fingerprints to create mini canvas art that can be treasured forever. The poem and fingerprint heart design would also be great turned into special greeting cards if made on card or paper.

This adorable mini canvas fingerprint keepsake is just one of many DIY keepsake crafts which kids can have fun making for someone special. We have lots more heart crafts and activities that little ones might enjoy doing too. 

Just the fingerprint heart on the mini canvas alone is a beautiful keepsake, but the poem makes it extra special. 

I know you wipe some away,

But these prints were made to stay. 

So keep them forever, a treasure they'll be.

Fingerprint Heart Craft

Heart Keepsake - Supplies

• Mini canvas and easel (You can get these cheaply instore or buy online UK link/ US link.  Alternatively you could make your keepsake on card)
• Paint (we used acrylic)
• Sticky back plastic/ contact paper
• A heart shaped cutter to draw around
• Scroll down to print out the cute 'I love you' poem (We also used this poem to make fingerprint hearts)

Fingerprint Heart Poem Keepsake

1. Cut a piece of sticky back plastic/ contact paper to the size of your mini canvas.
2. Cut a heart shape out of the middle of the sticky back plastic (TIP: Draw around a heart shaped biscuit cutter)
3. Press the sticky back plastic/ contact paper onto the canvas.  Make sure you press down hard around the edge of the heart shape.
4. Dip your finger in paint and fill the cut out heart shape with fingerprints. We kept to 3 colours for each heart. 
5. Once the paint has dried remove the sticky back plastic.  You will be left with a neat heart of fingerprints.
6. Print off and stick the poem on the bottom of the canvas.

When making our fingerprint hearts I put the colours each of the children had chosen onto a paper plate for them to dip their fingers into. 

Harry (aged 4) did his fingerprints really carefully so you could see the individual fingerprints well once they had dried.  Daisy (17 months) preferred to mix hers together a bit.  

These fingerprint hearts look really effective on the mini canvases but would also make lovely greeting cards. 

The addition of the fingerprint poem makes this an extra special keepsake.
