We watched the opening night at Motorpoint Arena Cardiff. We decided to leave Daisy (20 months) at home this time as the show started a bit too late for her, but there were children of her age there enjoying the show. Harry (aged 4) brought a friend with him in Daisy's place and both boys were mesmerised throughout.
Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofie, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck introduce the show and act as 'tour guides' as they introduce the audience to the magical worlds of The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan and Frozen.
The first of the mini stories is The Lion King followed by Peter Pan. The retelling of the classic story Peter pan was one of my favourites parts of the show. The scene begins with Peter pan and Wendy flying above the ice rink before they join Tinker Bell. They then meet Hook and his crew who are aboard a pirate ship. Harry was quite excited (and maybe a tiny bit afraid) by the arrival of a massive crocodile. He loved that you could hear the tick tock of the clock inside the crock.
After the interval was The Little Mermaid. As the story is retold the ice rink fills with colourful undersea creatures. The boys LOVED the addition of bubbles falling from above.
The Frozen section was the highlight of the show for the boys and judging by the number of girls in Elsa dresses I think there were a lot of little girls excited about this section too! The story is re told well and the falling snow and fireworks makes this scene totally magical. Harry was excited to see Olaf and as expected everyone joined in with 'Let it go'.
There is so much attention paid to detail throughout the show and some superb props. I would recommend Disney On Ice for children of all ages (and for adults!) The impressive ice skating, choreography, mini stories, singing and special effects kept the children captivated throughout.
Tickets are available now from the Disney on Ice Website
Disclosure: I was given press tickets to watch and review the show
