Ice Fish Play

The summer holidays are finally here! YAY! Playing with ice fish in the sunshine is a perfect activity to keep the kids entertained. Ice fish are simple to make and its great fun catching the fish, watching the colours mix together and exploring how they melt.

You will need:

A fish shaped ice tray (ours was from ikea)
Food colouring
A tray/ container
A small net

How to make ice fish

Simply fill your fish shaped ice tray with water and add a drop of food colouring into each of the fish shapes. We use red and yellow colouring. The colours mixed together a little as I carried the tray across to the freezer. Leave the tray in the freezer for a few hours and then tip the fish out onto a tray or container. We added a little bit of water to the tray so the fish could swim about.

Playing with ice fish

Daisy was fascinated with her fish. She told me they were cold by saying 'brrrrrr' and then helped her fish swim across the tray.

She played with the fish until the very last bit had melted away and then she said 'gone'! This activity didn't last too long but Daisy was really engaged and loved playing with the fish.
