Personalized Christmas Ornament - The cutest fingerprint snowman ornament ever!

Fingerprint Snowman Christmas Ornament
We used white DAS air dry clay for this activity, but if you don't have any air dry clay available it would work just as well using salt dough. (Do check out our ever growing DIY keepsake collection that includes both clay and salt dough crafts)
Start by rolling out the clay until it is about 1/2 cm thick. Cut out a snowman shape and remove any extra clay from around the edge of the cutter. Then carefully press the snowman out of the cutter using your fingers, if the arms get stuck (they did for us) press them out gently using the end of a chop stick or spoon.
Dip your finger into water and run a finger around the edge of the snowman shape to make sure that the edges of the clay snowman are nice and smooth.
Then make a small hole at the top of the snowman so that he is ready to have thread added for hanging up once dry. The easiest way to make a small hanging hole is to push a straw into the clay, turn the straw slightly and then when you pull the straw out the clay from the centre of the straw will come with it leaving a hole.
Add buttons to the snowman by pressing your finger into the clay. You might need to help a child with this as to leave deep imprints in the clay you do need to press quite hard.
Leave the clay snowman to completely dry, this might take overnight.
Then the fun decorating part! Choose a favourite colour or two to decorate the snowman. You will need to draw a face on the snowman first. We chose to do this in the same colour as the paint we were going to use to paint the snowman's hat, gloves and buttons.
The snowman's buttons can be painted using a painty fingerprint to turn this Christmas ornament into a really cute keepsake. We choose to use metallic paints to add a bit of shimmer to our snowmen.
Once the paint has dried add some thread and your snowman will be ready for hanging on the Christmas tree. We tried to use colour coordinated thread to complete the colourful look for each of our snowmen.
These clay snowmen would make really cute gift tags. You could write who the gift was to and from on the back of the clay snowman and then attach them to the gift using the thread. I love the look of the white snowmen with a splash of colour against the brown paper.
Fingerprint snowmen ornaments are perfect as gifts for parents or grandparents as they make lovely keepsakes. You could add a name and age to the back of each one. They would also be great to make to sell at Christmas fairs to raise money for schools or groups.
