Butterfly crafts are always eye catching and they are perfect for this time of year as we head into Spring. We have done many butterfly crafts over the years but our rainbow footrpint butterfly still remains one of my favourite.
I love the brightly coloured papers that have been used for this butterfly paper craft, but pastel colours or patterned papers would look beautiful too.
This activity is suitable for all ages, but younger children will need a little support. Toddlers and preschoolers could colour or paint patterns onto the template and then let an adult help with the assembly to create their own unique butterfly.

Butterfly Paper Craft
Before starting this craft you will need to download and print out the template from the bottom of the page. Trace the template patterns onto your selected coloured craft paper and cut them out. The template includes 2 patterns, upper wings and lower wings.
Make accordion folds on the wing patterns. Try to keep the folds small and even.
Take the lower wing pattern and apply a drop of glue to the middle part of the wing.
Take the upper wing pattern and attach it to the lower wing pattern where the glue is. Squeeze the joint part to make sure that the wings are attached nicely.
Cut a small piece of yarn thread and tie it around the middle part of the wings. Keep enough yarn thread at both open ends for the antenna and then cut off extra if required.
Spread the folds of each butterfly wing carefully.
And there we have it, a beautiful paper butterfly craft.
Make a whole collection of butterflies in different colours and hang them up in groups!
Have fun making your paper craft butterflies.
