Christmas Pancakes Recipe- A Fun Christmas Day Breakfast
Ingredients for your Christmas pancakes
- 1 cup all purpose flour (plain flour)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2-3 drops green food colouring
- Christmas tree cookie cutter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 tablespoons milk
- Christmas sprinkles
- Star sprinkles
Directions to make your Christmas pancakes
STEP 1: Gather the ingredients
Before you get started, gather up all the ingredients needed for your Christmas pancakes and the topping. This just makes it loads easier in the kitchen.
STEP 2: Prepare the batter
Now, it's time to prepare the batter! Start by whisking together the milk, egg, and melted butter. Set that bowl aside.
Then, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a separate bowl.
Once you've done that, add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients slowly, whisking together until fully combined. Add the food colouring and mix well.
STEP 3: Cook the Christmas pancakes
Once you've prepared the batter, it's time to heat up the skillet! Heat it up over medium heat and prepare with nonstick cooking spray. I like to put my batter in a measuring cup for easy pouring at this phase.
Pour just enough batter to form 4-5 pancakes, slightly larger than the cookie cutter you are using. Allow them to cook for 3-4 minutes, until the edges begin to bubble and rise to the surface of the pancakes.
Flip and then cook for a few minutes more until they are fully cooked through. If the pancakes cook too quickly, or burn, reduce the heat.
STEP 4: Finish up your Christmas pancakes
Once the pancakes have cooked and slightly cooled, use the cookie cutter to cut tree shapes from the pancakes.
Then, in a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Drizzle over the pancakes and top with Christmas sprinkles for a fun Christmas day breakfast!
