A few facts about Georgia O'keeffe
Georgia O'Keeffe was an American artist born in Wisconsin in 1887. She is often considered the "Mother of American modernism." Georgia O'Keeffe is best known for her large-scale paintings of colourful and bright flowers, with an attention to detail that wasn't often seen at the time in such large impressions.
Although her most popular and well known paintings are her vivid interpretation of flowers and plants, Georgia's body of artwork is large and diverse. She often painted landscapes, inspired by the city of New York and her beloved New Mexico.
Georgia O'Keefe's artwork is still making waves to this day and her style and techniques are getting more and more appreciation as time goes on.

Start this flower art project by downloading our free printable template of a flower inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe's work. Print out the template onto thick white paper or thin cardstock.
Alternatively you may prefer to draw your own flower. If drawing your own flower try to fill the whole page with the flower design and add as much detail as you can.
STEP 2: Make your black glue.
Once you have your template ready to go, take your glue and mix it with black paint until you get a smooth mixture. Then, use this black glue and outline the flower with it.
If you don't have black glue another option is to go around the outline of the flower with a black oil pastel.
STEP 3: Use your watercolours.
Once you have the whole flower outlined with black glue, wait for it to dry and then take your watercolours and paint the flower. We decided to use shades of pink and purple.
STEP 4: Paint the background.
To finish up this flower painting, paint the background in a contrasting colour. We used a bright blue.
