Frog Activity for Toddlers and Preschoolers - Directions:
STEP 1 - Grab the frog counting worksheet:
Head over to our Messy Little Monster Shop and get the frog counting worksheet. Once you have the file, print out the lily pad and frog images on white paper. You will need to print out several lily pads, one for each number you would like to use. I would suggest starting with 5.
STEP 2 - Prepare the frog counting activity:
Take the lily pads and cut them out. Then, using a marker write a number on each of the circles that are on the design.
As well as a lily pad image we have also included an image of a log that which you can use instead of the lily pads if you wish. The log design is perfect if you want to do this counting activity alongside the nursery rhyme '5 little speckled frogs'.
STEP 3 - Play the counting game
Invite your toddler or preschooler to sit down and start this counting game! Help your little one identify each number on the lily pads and count out as many frogs as the number shows on top of the lily pads.
Use can use the larger frogs or smaller frogs, or mix it up a little and use both. Make it a little more fun by making the frogs jump onto the lily pads and then back into the water.
Talk to your toddler or preschooler about how many frogs they have on each lily pad. Discuss which lily pad has more frogs and which has less. Take one frog off and ask how many are left.
If you are using the logs, use them in the same way, but write the number on the log.
