How to setup your elf on the shelf props
STEP 1: Prep your supplies
Before we get started, let's gather up the supplies so we aren't running around too much. We want to stay nice and quiet (unless of course you have kids in school) so no curious eyes catch us setting up our Elf!
If you haven't grabbed your free elf on the shelf printable props, be sure to scroll down below to download and print. For best results, you'll want to print these on cardstock as standard printer paper might be too flimsy for this type of setup.
STEP 2: Prep the printable
Once you have everything you need, cut around the dotted lines and fold where instructed to do so. For more precise results, use a ruler and craft knife or scissors.
Next, choose which canopy you'd like to use and glue or hang in place on the top of your shack, as shown below.
If you'd like to change your shack to one of the other options instead, you can cut those out and hang them as shown below.
STEP 3: Add additional props and accessories
Once you have your printable prepared, grab your elf on the shelf and any other accessories you might need. Below are some ideas you can use for some added fun!
- Setup a cup of cocoa mix for hot cocoa in the morning with your Elf! You can add mini marshmallows or candy canes for added fun.
- Lay out various Christmas themed candies for the candy shop!
- Arrange a cup of popcorn and sprinkle some pieces around your Elf for the popcorn bar
- Grab some miniature Santa-themed props like a small sleigh or Santa hat to lay nearby
- Cook/bake small sized food items to go with the theme (tacos, breakfast, etc)
- Lay out mini donuts and some Christmas-themed sprinkles around him
- Put some Christmas-themed stationary nearby to invite kids to write a letter for Santa
