How to make your preschool octopus craft
STEP ONE: Prepare your supplies
Before you begin, gather up all your supplies and print your template. If you don't have your template yet, scroll down below to get a copy (alternatively trace the octopus shape freehand). Make sure to have lots of various washi tape options for your child to choose from.
STEP TWO: Prepare the octopus body & background
Next, draw simple wave lines onto your blue cardstock. This will be the ocean background.
Then, position the octopus body near the top of the blue cardstock. You can choose to glue it now or wait until you have the washi tape where you want it. If you choose to glue at this point, make sure to only glue towards the top of the octopus body as you'll need room to insert the washi tape behind it.
STEP THREE: Arrange your octopus tentacles
Once you're ready to move on, have your child choose what colours and designs of washi tape they'd like to use for the tentacles. You'll need eight pieces in various lengths.
Start tearing the strips and arrange from behind the octopus body in random positions as shown below.
Keep adding more pieces and make sure to spread them apart so they fit across the entire bottom.
STEP FOUR: Finalise your octopus craft
Time for the finishing touches on your octopus craft! If you haven't yet, glue the octopus body in place. Then, glue down the googly eyes and you should be left with a result similar to the image below. Add a little smile and some rosy cheeks if you like!
