What we really love about ocean crafts is how they work brilliantly with lessons! You can explore all kinds of things about whales or just have a fun conversation as you put together your whale craft. For younger kids, they will love reading A Whale of a Tale by Bonnie Worth before starting their paper whale craft. Have fun with it!

How to make a paper whale craft
STEP 1: Round up all your whale craft supplies
Before you get started, make sure you round up all your supplies! This makes things soooooo much easier when it comes to crafting time. If you haven't snagged your free whale template yet, make sure to scroll down below and get it (use code whale to get your template for free).
STEP 2: Prepare your whale template
Next, prepare your template by printing it on the appropriate coloured papers and cutting them out. The body goes on dark grey paper, the belly pieces go on light grey paper, the water splashes go on blue paper, and the eyes go on white paper.
Alternatively, you can have your child decide what colour whale they want! Or you can print it all out on white paper and have them colour it in or paint it.
STEP 3: Glue the whale craft together
Now it's time to put together your cool whale craft! Start by gluing the belly piece on the bottom of the body, followed by the fins, eyes, and water splashes as shown below.
You may also want to cut out and colour in some bubbles for your whale.
STEP 4: Paint the ocean background
Grab a white sheet of paper and have your child help paint the paper with blue water colours. This will serve as the big blue ocean for your whale! Set it aside and allow time to dry.
STEP 5: Finish up the whale craft
After your blue ocean has had time to dry, glue down your whale and the bubbles. Your whale craft is now complete!
