How to Make a Hand Print Turkey
STEP ONE: Gather your supplies
Before you get started making your hand turkey, make sure you get all your supplies ready and to hand. You can use any colour of paint you'd like for the tail feathers. We chose to use yellow, orange, green, and purple.
STEP TWO: Paint your child's hand
Start painting your child's hand by applying brown paint to their palm and thumb. The thumb will the head of the turkey. Paint the remaining fingers in each of your desired colours - these will be the turkey's tail feathers. Make sure to apply a thick layer of paint so you are left with full coverage on the paper.
STEP THREE: Apply turkey handprint to paper
Once you've applied the paint to your child's hand, press their hand down firmly on the paper. Apply pressure to each finger and then carefully pull your child's hand straight up. You want to be very careful here as it is easy to smudge the paint.
STEP FOUR: Add final details to your hand turkey
After applying the paint, allow it time to dry (about 10-20 minutes). Then, use a marker to apply the beak, eye, waddle, and feet details onto your turkey. You can do this for your child, or they may enjoy adding the details themselves.
As an alternative to using markers, you could use a googly eye and cut out pieces of colored paper to create the details on your turkey handprint.
You're turkey hand is complete! We hope you have lots of fun painting your handprint turkey craft. This is such a cute Thanksgiving craft for kids and it makes a great keepsake. Toddlers and preschoolers will have so much fun making their own turkey handprint.
