How to make Nativity puppets
STEP 1: Prepare the Nativity puppet template
Before you start making your Nativity puppets you will need to scroll to the end of the directions to get the printable Nativity template.
Once you have the template, cut out the shapes and trace them onto coloured craft paper. Use the image below as a guide. Cut out each traced shape and create small slits towards the top of Mary and Joseph's head scarfs.
This template includes all the shapes needed to create Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus.
STEP 2: Make baby Jesus
Take the oval-shaped piece of paper and glue the small circle onto it. Glue baby Jesus on top of the manger shape. This will be your baby Jesus puppet!
STEP 3: Make Mary and Joseph
Take the hair cutout and glue it onto one of the larger circle shapes to create Mary's face. Glue the beard cutout onto the other larger circle to create Jopseph's face. Glue the faces to the top part of each body cutout.
Slide Mary and Josephs heads through the top of the slits on the scarf shapes. With a couple of drops of glue, secure all the pieces in place.
STEP 4: Complete your Nativity puppets
Using a thin black sharpie, draw the nose, mouth, and eyes on each puppet's face. Use a pink marker to colour the puppet's cheeks.
To complete your Nativity puppet craft attach the papercraft cutouts to popsicle sticks with glue.
Once the glue has dried on your Christmas Nativity puppets it is time to get the kids ready to tell the nativity story. Take turns to use the puppets to reenact part of the first Christmas story.
