How to make a Christmas tree hand print
STEP ONE: Gather your supplies
Before you get started on your Christmas tree handprint craft, gather up all your supplies. It's much easier when everything is laid out and ready to go.
STEP TWO: Make handprints
Start by rolling out a large sheet of paper to make handprints on. Depending on the age of your child, you may opt to directly paint the palm of their hand and help them apply it to the paper. Alternatively, you can set out some green paint for them to dip their hand and apply to the paper.
Invite your child to apply lots of handprints all over the paper. Let them have fun stamping their hand onto the paper, but help your child to create a few recognisable handprints too. Make sure you have enough handprints for all the ways you plan to use them! Allow them to dry before moving onto the next step.
STEP THREE: Decorate and cut the handprints
Invite your child to use a variety of buttons to decorate their handprint Christmas tree and glue them onto the handprint. As an alternative you could decorate your Christmas tree handrint using small pom poms, sequins, painty fingerprints or even markers.
Then, glue the cardboard star onto the top. You can either make this yourself by colouring a star shape cut out from cardboard or purchase one already made. Star stickers would work well for this too. Wait for the glue to dry before moving onto cutting.
Next, help your child cut around their handprint, making sure to leave space around the outside of the handprints. younger children may need help with this step.
STEP FOUR: Finalise your Christmas tree handprint
The last step is to use your handprints to make other Christmas items! Here are a few different options:
- Ornament: Laminate it, add a hole punch, and thread a piece of string to hang on the tree
- Gift tags: Add a hole punch to tie it onto a bow for Christmas gifts
- Christmas cards: Glue it onto cardstock or construction paper for a holiday card
- Keepsake: Add it to cardstock and frame it with the year for grandparents
We hope you had lots of fun making this Christmas tree hand print! This is such a fun craft to do with kids and can have a variety of uses. This Christmas tree handprint can be made lots of times for different things. Invite your child to play and see what you can come up with.
